Here’s the Wookiee Life Day reference from The Big Bang Theory!
While I in no way invented the holiday, I do feel somewhat responsible for bringing it more into the public awareness with the annual holiday celebrations in beginning in 2009. Branding it “Wookiee Life Day” over the previously known “Life Day”, and with acknowledgement and major help from Steve Sansweet and Lucasfilm, Wookiee Life Day has sort of become “Star Wars Christmas” for many fans. Let’s keep building the awareness until Disney cannot ignore the demand for a limited edition Blu-ray/DVD collector’s set of The Star Wars Holiday Special! It’d be nice if Hasbro finally made those Wookiee family action figures too!
The Star Wars Holiday Special deserves its infamy, but I always liked the cantina scene, with Bea Arthur playing the unfortunate nighttime bartender.
We actually got a better look at several of the cantina aliens here than in the movie! (Not to mention the several “new” aliens created exclusively for the segment, which were cheesy in all the best ways.)
Remember you can celebrate Wookiee Life Day all season long! To celebrate the holiday spirit and the 35th Anniversary of theStar Wars Holiday Special we will be having a party at the Bigfoot Lodge in Los Angeles on December 17th! You are encouraged to to cosplay, wear your ceremonial Wookiee Snuggie, and bring an appropriate donation for Toys for Tots. We’d especially love to see 501st members, so please help spread the word and help make this the best holiday party of the year!
"This holiday is yours, but we all share with you the hope that this day brings us closer to freedom, and to harmony, and to peace. No matter how different we appear, we’re all the same in our struggle against the powers of evil and darkness. I hope that this day will always be a day of joy in which we can reconfirm our dedication and our courage. And more than anything else, our love for one another. This is the promise of the Tree of Life." - Princess Leia
